GM’s saga of success at the global level

The niche that GM has carved in the auto segment not only in India but across the world is worth mentioning. Unlike other car brands, GM Motors in India with its Chevrolet brand of cars has turned as one of the most preferred automaker. No wonder the auto giant is the largest manufacturer of cars and trucks in the world. Every season the company has something new to offer and every offering is a true epitome of excellence at its best. Garnering the customers' enthusiasm through unremitting improvement incorporating novel concepts and features, the GM team has given a new definition to auto engineering.

With manufacturing units in as many as 32 countries, General Motors caters to the vehicle needs of over 200 countries. Its record breaking success was in the year 2004 when it sold almost nine million cars and trucks at the international level – the second highest total since its inception in the year 1908, setting industry records in the USA. GM’s highest sales are witnessed in Asia Pacific, Latin America, North America, Europe, Africa and the Middle East. The other brands other than the Chevrolet include Cadillac, Buick, GMC, Holden, Saab, Saturn, Vauxhall Hummer, Oldsmobile, Opel, and Pontiac.

GM Motors’ aggressive investment in high technology has given it a competitive edge in the market. The India chapter of General Motors started in the year 1928 at Bombay (Mumbai), the first automaker to open a plant in India (Sewree) for assembling.
